The centre is for patients, their carers and family members whether an inpatient, outpatient or patient of a GP, that provides the following services free of charge:

•    Leaflets on all key health conditions
•    Details of national and local support groups
•    Internet based health information
•    Information on services and support provided by Tameside Council
•    Information in a range of community languages and other formats
•    Staff available to help you find the information you need

The centre is open between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours you can leave a message on the telephone voicemail service, or you can email them.

NHS Choices

NHS Choices is the country's biggest health website and gives much of the information you need to make choices about your health.  You can enter your post code to find information about hospitals, GPs and dentists and urgent care.

As well as basic contact details and information about these services, you can also find feedback from other people about what they think about these services.
It’s not just limited to NHS information. You can also find information about other services in your area (often provided by charities) that can help you with conditions from Alzheimers through to weight loss.

The way you access health care information, advice and services on the telephone is changing. Over the next few months the 0845 4647 service is being replaced by NHS 111 in England.

You should call the NHS 111 service if you need medical help fast, but it’s not a 999 emergency.

You will be assessed, given advice and directed straight away to the local service that can help you best. Calls to NHS 111 are free from landlines and mobile phones.

Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) exist to improve the health care of the local population. Their main focus is to use the local knowledge of GPs and their Practice teams to advance the way that health services are currently delivered, and help their patients to make full use of the services that are available.

Tameside Libraries are involved in a number of health initiatives, with health information, books, services and resources available in the libraries.  They offer books on prescription and have an In Touch Health kiosk available in Hyde Library.

Get Help With Health Costs
Although treatment on the NHS is free at the point of delivery, there may still be some costs (for example, your journey to hospital). However, check your eligibility to see if any of the cost can be reclaimed, which should ease any added stress.
