Leadership Update: Welcoming Glyn Goodchild as Chair of Healthwatch Tameside
Glyn Goodchild was appointed Interim Chair of Healthwatch Tameside Advisory Board in spring 2025, and we’re delighted to announce that, following a decision by this board in August 2025, he has now been formally elected to the role.
Glyn brings over 60 years of experience in the NHS, having worked as a Nursing Manager and therapist in Mental Health, with a particular focus on Child and Adult Psychiatry. In addition to his extensive NHS background, Glyn has served as Chair of a local primary school for more than 40 years, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to community leadership.
Glyn is passionate about tackling health inequalities and empowering local communities. He is a strong advocate for the role of charitable, voluntary, and community organisations in shaping better health outcomes.
Healthwatch Tameside champions the voices of local people, ensuring their experiences shape the quality and accessibility of health and care services. As a statutory body established over a decade ago, it operates as a “critical friend,” using constructive feedback to drive improvements and uphold its legal duty to represent the public voice.
As Chair, Glyn leads the Advisory Board, which meets bi-monthly, and is committed to encouraging active board support for staff in delivering this vital work. He is a strong advocate for Healthwatch Tameside’s statutory role and believes it must remain central to helping residents access effective services - especially in response to proposals in the Dash Report suggesting Healthwatch be replaced by an internal feedback mechanism. Healthwatch Tameside is actively engaging with these recommendations to ensure the public’s voice continues to influence local decision-making.
Glyn Goodchild, Chair of the Healthwatch Tameside Advisory Board said:
“Healthwatch Tameside has a unique ability to turn community insight into meaningful change by providing evidence-based feedback to those who shape our health and care services. I’m proud to be part of an organisation with such a dedicated team and a committed Advisory Committee. While the future may bring challenges, I’m confident that Healthwatch Tameside will continue to play a vital role in ensuring people’s voices are heard and acted upon.”
At Healthwatch Tameside, we’re committed to making sure local voices are heard when it comes to health and care services. Events like this show the strength of our community when we work together.
