Help protect your independent voice in health and social care

The Government has introduced a new Health Bill. If it becomes law, independent local Healthwatch organisations, including Healthwatch Tameside, would be replaced by feedback systems run by the NHS and local councils.

At Healthwatch Tameside, we are the independent champion for people who use health and social care services. We make sure local people’s views help shape care and that the people in charge hear what matters most to residents.

We are concerned that these changes could make it harder for people in Tameside to be heard, especially people who already face barriers to speaking up.

Independence matters.

People share their experiences with us because they trust us to be independent. If the organisations responsible for providing care also collect the feedback, there is a risk they will be judging their own services.

Hearing from everyone matters.

As a local community organisation, we have built strong links with people and groups across Tameside, including people who are less likely to be heard or who face extra barriers. If those voices are missed, health inequalities could get worse.

Your MP can help shape what happens next.

The Bill still has to go through Parliament. MPs can ask questions, suggest changes and vote on it. If you contact your MP, you can help them understand why an independent local voice matters.

How to contact your MP

It only takes a few minutes. Here is what to do:

Find your MP
If you are not sure who your MP is, you can find their name and contact details by entering your postcode on the Parliament website. Find your MP on the Parliament website.

Add your name, address and your own words
MPs usually only reply to people who live in their area, so include your name and address. If you can, add a few words about why this matters to you. Personal messages can have more impact.

Send your message
