Healthwatch Tameside - Enter & View Report, St Lawrence's Lodge Care Home
Healthwatch Tameside is the independent consumer champion for health and social care in Tameside. We listen to local people and gather information about their experiences of using health and social care services, and feed these back to commissioners and providers to help influence change.
Healthwatch Tameside has the legal power to visit health and social care services and see them in action. This power to Enter and View services offers a way for Healthwatch Tameside to meet some of our statutory functions and allows us to identify what is working well with services and where they could be improved.
As part of our statutory functions, our board have agreed to conduct a series of Enter and View visits to care providers within Tameside. Our visit to St Lawrence's Lodge Care Home took place on the August 27 2025.
Our visit focused on how well the home supports residents’ dignity, independence, and quality of life. We spoke with residents, staff, and relatives, as well as observing the environment and routines in the home.
Following our visit, we compiled our findings and included a set of recommendations for the service provider's review. The draft report was sent for comment to the provider, allowing 20 working days for their response. An extension of an additional 10 workings days was provided to the provider having received no response to the original request.
The provider noted in their response that the following recommendations have since been confirmed as completed:
(5) We recommend a deep clean of the resident bedrooms to eliminate strong odours.

This report will be sent to leaders and commissioners at Adult Social Care, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) alongside the care provider, to highlight the findings from our Enter & View visit to St Lawrence's Lodge Care Home.
