Healthwatch Tameside - Enter & View Report, Sandon House Care Home
Healthwatch Tameside is the independent consumer champion for health and social care in Tameside. We listen to local people and gather information about their experiences of using health and social care services, and feed these back to commissioners and providers to help influence change.
Healthwatch Tameside has the legal power to visit health and social care services and see them in action. This power to Enter and View services offers a way for Healthwatch Tameside to meet some of our statutory functions and allows us to identify what is working well with services and where they could be improved.
Sandon House Care Home in Mossley, provides residential and dementia care for up to 42 residents and is operated by HC One Ltd. At the time of the visit, the home was rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The visit took place on 5 November 2025 as part of our Enter & View visits to health and social care services. Representatives spoke with residents, relatives, staff and management, and observed the environment, routines and delivery of care, focusing on dignity, independence and quality of life.
Following our visit, we compiled our findings and included a set of recommendations for the service provider's review. The draft report was sent for comment to the provider, allowing 20 working days for their response, which is included in the published report.
The provider noted in their response that the following recommendations have been implemented:
(1.) Improve menu readability
(2.) Relative engagement
(7.) Anonymous staff feedback opportunities
With progress made towards the full implementation of recommendation:
(5.) Enhance dementia-friendly bathroom features
The full report including findings, recommendations and provider response can all be found below.
This report will be sent to leaders and commissioners at Adult Social Care, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) alongside the care provider, to highlight the findings from our Enter & View visit to Sandon House Care Home.
